In the film , a woman talks scornfully about a man who " hangs around the saloons and gambling dens".This would have struck a chord with the depression era audience when there was mass unemployment and poverty,.and every cent was needed

Speaking of the 'gambling den' in the movie. That was the cheapest looking one I've seen in a movie.
